Madagascar is the largest island nation in Africa and the fourth largest island in the world. Its isolated location in the Indian Ocean has led to the development of numerous plants that are found nowhere else in the world.

Thanks to the dense vegetation as well as the unique flora and fauna, the country is rich in resources and offers numerous natural ingredients. 
The island is known for products such as: 

• essential oils like Ravintsara 'Cinnamomum camphora', Niaouli 'Melaleuca quinquenervia', Geranium 'Pelargonium rosat' 
• fatty oils e.g. from moringa seeds
• vanilla, nuts and spices like pepper or turmeric 
• dried fruits (e.g. lychee, papaya) as well as cocoa and cocoa products.

Many producers provide their products in organic quality. They often work with small farmers and cooperatives, creating an important source of income for the rural population.
